information

The 1NEED Micro-Needling device is a device which delivers 1000’s of micro surgical needle insertions rapidly and enables the practitioner to adjust speed and depth to suit the area of skin and indication for treatment.

Because the needle insertions are so rapid, this is a pain free treatment.

When the skin is injured, the injury or wound triggers a natural healing response, cells are stimulated to create new, stronger collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid to repair the injury.  Because this technique retains a healthy epidermis (the surface layer of the skin) the resulting repair leads to a healthier skin, both in appearance and function.

  • Open pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Superficial pigmentation
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Dull, tired skin

This is not a painful treatment, indeed, patients describe it as quite pleasant and relaxing.  To ensure your comfort, we can apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the skin prior to treatment where depths greater than 1.5mm are required.

Since this treatment relies upon natural processes and causes only micro fine, controlled injury to the skin, it is considered very safe, when the appropriate devices are used in trained hands.

The practitioner will take a detailed medical history to ensure you have no conditions that might increase risk of unwanted side effects, consultation is also important to discuss your expectations and whether or not this treatment is able to meet them.

The optimum result is achieved over a course of treatments and over a period of months. Depending on the treatment indications a course of between 3 and 5 treatments 4-6 weeks apart will be recommended.

Most patients report a notice improvement after the first two weeks and report skin feels smoother, softer and looks fresher, but the real changes occur from about 12 weeks.  Skin quality continues to improve for up to nine months!

All make up will need to be removed prior to treatment, so please come ‘fresh faced’ if possible.

Alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen and a range of dietary supplements including; St. Johns Wort, fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins C and E- may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24 hours before treatment.

Treatment cannot be administered if there is an active skin infection, including acne or cold sores or if you are unwell- including colds, coughs, sore throats etc.

Do contact the clinic to discuss any illness or new medicines prior to attending.

Immediately after treatment your skin will be pink.  Degrees vary from one individual to another, from pale pink blush to beetroot red.  Any redness is expected to resolve steadily over hours, sometimes it may take 3 or 4 days to return to normal colour.  make-up, can be worn the next day.

If redness worsens, or itching occurs in the first few hours after treatment, cold compresses, or an anti-histamine tablet will help to resolve any discomfort.

Use only the recommended products until skin colour returns to normal, then usual skin care may be resumed.

The use of a serum is recommended to support healthy skin repair and boost results

SPF 30 or above should be worn daily during the course of the treatment.

You are advised to avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, and extremes of heat or cold for 48 hours post treatment. These activities have been found to increase and prolong redness and swelling.

Do not use hair dyes for a week following treatment.

After microneedling, it is important to follow these guidelines for optimal results:

  1. Keep the treated area clean: Gently cleanse the skin with a mild, non-irritating cleanser to remove any debris or excess product. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleansers that may cause irritation.

  2. Apply a soothing moisturizer: Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to soothe and nourish the skin after microneedling. Look for products that are specifically formulated for post-treatment care.

  3. Protect your skin from the sun: Direct sun exposure should be avoided for at least 48 hours after microneedling. If you need to go outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

  4. Avoid makeup and harsh skincare products: Refrain from using makeup or any products containing harsh chemicals for at least 24-48 hours after the treatment. Allow your skin to breathe and heal naturally.

  5. Follow your provider’s instructions: Every individual’s skin reacts differently to microneedling. It’s essential to follow any specific post-treatment instructions provided by your skincare professional for the best results.

To ensure the best outcome and avoid potential complications, it is recommended that you avoid the following after microneedling:

  1. Touching or picking at the treated area: It’s important to resist the temptation to touch or pick at your skin, as this can introduce bacteria and cause infection or scarring.

  2. Exposing your skin to direct sunlight: UV rays can be harmful to the healing skin after microneedling. Avoid sun exposure, and if you need to go outside, wear protective clothing and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

  3. Applying makeup or skincare products with harsh chemicals: Allow your skin to heal naturally without any interference from makeup or skincare products that may contain irritating or comedogenic ingredients.

  4. Engaging in strenuous physical activities: Avoid activities that cause excessive sweating or heat, as it may irritate the treated skin. Opt for light exercises or physical activities instead.

  5. Using exfoliating products or treatments: Refrain from using exfoliating scrubs, peels, or treatments that may be too harsh for the healing skin. Let your skin recover without any additional exfoliation.

To maximize the benefits of microneedling and achieve the best possible results, consider the following tips:

  1. Consult with a qualified professional: Choose an experienced skincare professional who can assess your skin’s needs and recommend the appropriate treatment plan for you.

  2. Follow a proper skincare routine: Prioritize a consistent skincare routine that includes cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection. Use products that are suitable for your skin type and address your specific concerns.

  3. Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy lifestyle: Drinking an adequate amount of water and maintaining a balanced diet can promote overall skin health and improve the results of microneedling.

  4. Be patient and consistent: Microneedling results are not instant; they require time and multiple sessions for noticeable improvements. Stick to the recommended treatment schedule and have realistic expectations.

  5. Protect your skin from the sun: Shield your skin from excessive sun exposure by using sunscreen with a high SPF, wearing protective clothing, and seeking shade when possible. Sun protection is crucial for maintaining the results of microneedling.

To ensure a safe and effective microneedling treatment, it is important to avoid the following before your session:

  1. Sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to microneedling. Sunburned or tanned skin is more sensitive and prone to complications.

  2. Retinol and exfoliating products: Discontinue the use of retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other exfoliating products for a few days before microneedling. These products can increase skin sensitivity and may cause irritation during the treatment.

  3. Active acne breakouts: If you have an active acne breakout or any skin infections, it is advisable to postpone microneedling until the condition clears up. Treating broken or infected skin can exacerbate the issue.

  4. Recent waxing or laser treatments: Avoid waxing or receiving laser treatments on the treatment area for at least two weeks prior to microneedling. These procedures can leave the skin more sensitive and increase the risk of adverse reactions.

  5. Blood-thinning medications or supplements: If you are taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements, consult with your healthcare provider before microneedling, as they may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding during the treatment.

Please note that these recommendations are general guidelines and may vary depending on individual circumstances. It’s always best to consult with a skincare professional for personalised advice tailored to your specific needs.
